14th and Walnut

14th and Walnut returns two long-vacant historic buildings to active use through a focused rehabilitation.

Located at the corner of 14th and Walnut Streets in Over-the-Rhine, this project returns two long-vacant historic buildings to active use through a focused rehabilitation. The 1840s multi-wythe brick building at 1400 Walnut—stabilized in 2014—has been restored to its original mixed-use configuration, with a ground-floor storefront and four market-rate apartments above. Next door at 110 E. 14th Street, the Greek Revival building is being reconfigured to accommodate five market-rate apartments. Together, the project introduces nine new residences and brings renewed commercial activity to a prominent neighborhood intersection. Serving as Architect of Record and Historic Tax Credit consultant, our team worked closely with the client to secure federal Historic Tax Credits and guide the interior and exterior rehabilitation. Original proportions, masonry detailing, and classical elements were retained where possible, allowing the buildings to contribute to the street and neighborhood once again after more than a decade of vacancy.
