MidLine is a 57-unit affordable housing development along the Vine Street corridor, strengthening the connection between Over-the-Rhine and Clifton Heights. Funded through OHFA, the project adds much-needed housing to a transit-rich corridor with direct access to Vine Street and planned Metro Rapid BRT.
The project weaves together old and new, incorporating two residential units within an existing mid-19th-century building at the southwest corner of Vine and Polk, alongside new construction to the north. Located at the base of a steep natural incline marking the edge between Mount Auburn and Clifton Heights, the site presented significant topographic and design challenges. The building responds by stepping into the hillside, allowing the architecture to work with the terrain.
At street level, a fully glazed storefront entry creates an active and transparent presence along Vine Street. Above, four stories of housing rise from the slope, with the top level set back to reduce the perceived height and better relate to the surrounding context. Shared amenities include a fitness room, covered bike storage, and an outdoor gathering space overlooking the wooded hillside.
